How to Draw Echo from Steal an Egg

We’re continuing with the Steal an Egg tutorials, and after Ben, it’s Echo’s turn: a white dog with blue ears and tail that look like flames, a big toothy grin, and a glowing eye.

I’ve divided the process into 5 pencil steps and a final one for coloring.

How to draw Echo step by step

Step 1: outline the head

Start with the head in profile: make a rounded forehead on top and extend the snout out to the left, curving it a bit at the tip. For the back, instead of a smooth line, create a jagged edge to show the fur at the nape. Finish with a long curve down: that’s the neck and chest.

Step 2: the ears

Echo has two huge ears shaped like flames. The rear ear goes straight up from the forehead and bends forward at the top. The front ear points to the right, long and wide, ending in a swirl. Add some tufts of fur where the ears meet the head.

Step 3: the face and mouth

Draw a large, round eye with a circle inside; from the edge of the face, peek a bit of the second eye. Place the nose at the tip of the snout. Next, open a huge mouth stretching almost to the ear, filling it with sharp, pointed teeth above and below, with one extra-long fang. Lastly, draw a long tongue hanging out, with a center line.

Step 4: the chest and front legs

Draw down from the neck a fluffy chest, marking the edges with small jagged tufts. The two front legs stretch forward as if Echo is leaping, and finish with round paws and three lines to separate the toes.

Step 5: back, rear leg, and tail

Close the body with the line of the back and a rear leg stretched back. Finally, the tail: large, bushy, arching upward, flame-shaped and edged with spikes. Go over the final lines with a black liner and erase the pencil lines.

Final result: Echo colored

The body stays white with light blue-gray shadows. The ears, tail, and tongue should be deep blue; if you have two blues, use the darker one for shading. The nose is black and inside the mouth is very dark. The eye is the highlight: outline it with blue and leave the center white so it looks shiny.
