How to Draw Pumpkaboo from Pokémon
Halloween is here, and I can’t think of a better character to draw than Pumpkaboo, the Ghost and Grass-type pumpkin Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon X and Y.
I’ve broken it down into 4 pencil-drawing steps, plus a final step to color it.

What you need to draw Pumpkaboo
These are the same supplies I use in the tutorial. This is all you need to complete the drawing from start to finish.
- Drawing pencil: for sketching steps 1 to 5. → See on Amazon
- Eraser: erases cleanly without smudging or tearing the paper. → See on Amazon
- Black marker: for outlining the final lines. → See on Amazon
- Colored pencils: blues and grays for Echo. → See on Amazon
- Drawing paper: strong enough for erasing and markers. → See on Amazon
How to draw Pumpkaboo step by step
Step 1: The head and face
Start with the head, at the top center of the paper. Draw a U-shaped curve with the ends curling inward, like two crescent moons—these will be its horns.
Below, the sides of the head curve downward with a small point on each side. Inside, draw two vertical oval eyes and an upside-down V-shaped mouth with two small fangs.

Step 2: The wing-shaped hair
On each side of the head, draw a wavy mass flaring outward like wings, ending in a sharp tip. Make it with three staggered waves going downward, and add a curved line inside each one for detail.
In the center, just below the face, draw a teardrop shape pointing downward.

Step 3: The pumpkin body and stem
Below the hair, sketch a large circle for the pumpkin body, with the base slightly indented in the center and two short feet on the sides. Between the horns, the thin stem rises, widens, and spirals at the top with a small crescent moon inside.

Step 4: The pumpkin’s eyes and segments
Draw two double circles on the pumpkin, one on each side—these are the holes where the light shines through. For the pumpkin sections, add a vertical line down the center and several curved lines on the sides following the round shape. Break them up to make it look lighter. Outline everything with a black marker, then erase the pencil lines.

Final result: Colored Pumpkaboo
Color the head, hair, and stem in dark brown. If you lighten the tips of the waves, it gives them more volume. The pumpkin body should be in a soft orange. The face’s eyes and the pumpkin’s holes go in light yellow: leave the center almost white and darken the edges slightly to make them glow. Leave the fangs white.
